HFLOR luxury vinyl tiles
How to fit HFLOR LVT flooring
HFLOR is made by LX Hausys and it's a proper workhorse LVT. Their click range has one nice quirk: it doesn't need acclimatising at all, so you can fit it the day it arrives.
- Difficulty
- Click: easy. Glue-down: moderate
- Time
- A day for a 20m² room
- People
- 1–2 people
- Skill level
- Confident beginner
What you’ll need to fit HFLOR luxury vinyl tiles
- Sharp utility knife and spare blades
- Metal straight edge
- Tape measure and pencil
- Spacers and a tapping block (click)
- Notched trowel and acrylic LVT adhesive (glue-down)
- 45kg floor roller, hired (glue-down)
Before you start
Click needs no settling time
HFLOR say their SPC click range needs no acclimatisation, though a day in the room won't hurt. Their glue-down Decotile and Vinex ranges do need 48 hours at 18–29°C.
Check the floor
Flat within about 5mm over 3m. Click can go over ceramic tiles with grout lines up to 8mm wide, which is generous.
Solvent adhesives are out
HFLOR specifically prohibit solvent-based adhesives. Use an acrylic one.
Underfloor heating
Turn it down to about 18°C for 72 hours before and during fitting, then bring it back up a few degrees a day.
How to fit HFLOR luxury vinyl tiles, step by step
Work out which type you have
SPC click planks have a locking profile. Decotile and Vinex dryback tiles have flat edges and get glued down.
CLICK: leave 6mm all round
A minimum 6mm expansion gap on every side. Make it 9mm in a conservatory or anywhere with big temperature swings.
CLICK: start on the left
First plank in the left-hand corner, tongue facing the wall, groove facing the next row.
CLICK: stagger by at least 15cm
Keep end joints in adjacent rows a minimum of 15cm apart, and lay them in a random-looking pattern rather than a regular staircase.
CLICK: mind the first and last rows
The first and last piece in every row needs to be at least 30cm long, and the last row should be at least a third of a plank wide. Trim the first row to make that work.
CLICK: score and snap
HFLOR are happy for you to score with a knife and snap the plank rather than sawing it.
GLUE-DOWN: set out and spread
Chalk your centre lines, dry-lay to check the edges, then spread an acrylic adhesive with a notched trowel.
GLUE-DOWN: lay and roll
Lay the tiles, then roll the whole floor both ways with a 45kg roller fairly soon after. Lift a tile at random to check — you want the adhesive ridges transferring to at least 80% of the back.
GLUE-DOWN: leave it 24 hours
No traffic for a day. And HFLOR are unusually cautious about cleaning: don't wet-clean for five days.

The HFLOR bits that catch people out
No acclimatisation on SPC click
Genuinely useful if the delivery lands on a Friday and you want to fit it on Saturday.
Underlay is built in
HFLOR SPC click has acoustic underlay bonded to the back, so you don't add a separate one.
The 80% test
After rolling a glue-down floor, lift a tile and look at the back. If the adhesive ridges have transferred to less than 80% of it, roll again.
Five days before washing
The longest wait of any brand on this site. Sweep and dry-mop until then.
Mistakes to avoid
- Skipping the 6mm expansion gap.
- Running more than about 20m without a threshold break.
- Using a solvent-based adhesive.
- Washing a glue-down floor too soon.
- Adding a separate underlay under SPC click that already has one built in.
HFLOR fitting questions, answered
Does HFLOR flooring need acclimatising?
Their SPC click range doesn't — you can fit it straight away. The glue-down Decotile and Vinex ranges need 48 hours in the room first.
What gap do I leave for HFLOR click flooring?
6mm minimum all the way round, or 9mm in conservatories and anywhere that gets very hot or cold.
Do I need underlay with HFLOR SPC click?
No — it's already bonded to the back of the plank.
Can HFLOR go over ceramic tiles?
Yes, and it's fairly forgiving about grout lines up to around 8mm wide.
How soon can I clean a new HFLOR floor?
Sweep and dry-mop straight away, but don't wet-clean a glue-down floor for five days. Click floors can be cleaned normally once the dust has settled.
