How to fit Luvanto LVT flooring
Luvanto is a British LVT brand and one of the most DIY-friendly out there. But there's one rule you absolutely must not break: Click Plus goes straight onto the floor with no underlay. Add one and the warranty's gone.

What you’ll need to fit Luvanto luxury vinyl tiles
- Sharp utility knife and spare blades
- Metal straight edge
- Tape measure and pencil
- Rubber mallet (never a metal hammer)
- Spacers
- Notched trowel and Luvanto adhesive (Design range)
- 68kg floor roller, hired (Design range)
Before you start
NO UNDERLAY on Click Plus
This is the big one. Luvanto Premium Click Plus, Click Plus and Craftsman must be laid directly onto the subfloor. Putting any underlay beneath them voids the warranty. The older Luvanto Click range allows exactly one underlay — QA SoundBarrier — and nothing else.
48 hours to settle
Leave the boxes in the room for two days at 18–21°C. Make it 72 hours if they've been somewhere cold.
Flat floor
No more than 3mm of variation over 2m. Chipboard floors need a 5.5mm plywood overlay. Laminate, click floors and wood mosaic all have to come up.
Underfloor heating
Off 48 hours before, off during, off 48 hours after. Then bring the temperature up gradually over at least seven days, and never past 27°C.
How to fit Luvanto luxury vinyl tiles, step by step
Work out your first row
Measure wall to wall, including the 5mm expansion gap, and plan so you don't end up with a sliver at the far side. Mark a starting line on the floor in pencil.
Pick your direction
Run the planks down the length of the room, or towards the strongest light source.
Leave 5mm everywhere
Around the whole perimeter AND around any fitted furniture. Also leave 1–2mm between the top of the floor and the underside of the skirting so it isn't pinched.
Click the long edges
Angle each plank into the locking system along the long edge and lay it flat. The long edges shouldn't need any force at all.
Tap the short ends home
Position the short end, then tap the top of the plank with a rubber mallet from about 10cm above the surface to engage the drop lock. Every short joint needs this.
Never use a metal hammer
Luvanto are explicit about this. A metal hammer will damage the locking joint and there's no fixing it.
Stagger by a third
Keep at least a third of a plank length between end joints in neighbouring rows. Don't let the joints line up.
Break up long runs
Any continuous run over 8m in either direction needs a 10mm expansion joint with a cover strip. Doorways between rooms need one too.
DESIGN GLUE-DOWN: no gap needed
The glue-down Design range doesn't need an expansion gap at all. Spread the adhesive, let it firm to a tack for about 45 minutes, lay, then roll with a 68kg roller and roll again one to four hours later.
Finish up
Take the spacers out, fit skirting or beading to the wall, and you're done. Click floors can be walked on straight away.

The Luvanto bits that catch people out
The underlay rule is a warranty condition
Not advice — a condition. Click Plus and Craftsman go directly onto the subfloor, no exceptions.
Herringbone with no A/B sorting
Premium Click Plus Herringbone uses a two-way joint, so every plank is identical and can go either way. Much easier than most herringbone systems.
The 10cm mallet drop
A lovely specific detail from Luvanto's guide: tap from about 10cm above the plank. Enough to engage the lock, not enough to damage it.
No rubber-backed mats
Rubber and latex-backed mats stain and discolour vinyl. Same goes for steam cleaners — don't.
Mistakes to avoid
- Putting underlay under Click Plus. It voids the warranty.
- Using a metal hammer instead of a rubber mallet.
- Forgetting the expansion gap around fitted furniture, not just the walls.
- Running more than 8m without an expansion joint.
- Putting a rubber-backed doormat on it, which stains the vinyl.

What gap do I leave for Luvanto flooring?
5mm around the perimeter and around any fitted furniture, plus 1–2mm between the floor and the underside of the skirting. The glue-down Design range needs no gap.
Can I use a hammer on Luvanto planks?
A rubber mallet, yes — tapped from about 10cm above the plank. Never a metal hammer; it damages the locking joint.
How soon can I walk on Luvanto Click Plus?
Straight away. Give it a clean and put the furniture back the same day.
Is Luvanto herringbone hard to fit?
Easier than most. Premium Click Plus Herringbone uses a two-way joint, so all the planks are the same and there's no left/right sorting to do.
