IGC, ERGO Oldham: Design-Led Carpet Tiles and LVT on a Raised Access Floor
IGC came to us with roughly 500m² of empty first-floor office space at the new ERGO building on Lydia Becker Way in Chadderton, Oldham. It was a shell space: open plan, with five "rooms" defined by walls inside the larger floor, and a raised access metal deck floor underneath. They needed a supply-and-fit price for a floor that would give each zone its own character while still working as one office.
We started with two simple options, one all carpet tile and one all LVT, so IGC could weigh up look, feel and budget. From there the brief developed into something more interesting: a mixed scheme with a custom design element, combining the warmth of carpet in the work areas with hard-wearing wood-effect LVT where it made sense.
The final specification used around 190m² of Forbo Allura 55 in Blackened Oak, a loose-lay LVT that suits raised access floors well because individual panels can still be lifted to reach the cabling and services below. Alongside it went three Nouveau carpet tile ranges: Composition in Gold and Yellow for bold accent areas, and Embroidered Nature in Amazon for the main field. Around 160m² of the carpet was design-laid to a bespoke pattern, with the rest straight-laid. Every product was fixed with the right tackifier for the job, so tiles stay put in daily use but nothing is permanently glued to the access floor panels.
Because the space was empty, heated and had on-site security to direct deliveries, our fitting team could get straight to work. The full installation was done in four days in October 2025, with no out-of-hours working needed and no prep work beyond what the raised floor already provided.
It's a good example of the kind of project we enjoy most: a new building, a client who wanted something more than plain grey tiles, and a subfloor that needed the right product choices to keep it accessible for years to come.
