Flooring installation: Admiralty Quarter

Admiralty Quarter is a prestigious residential development on Queen Street in the heart of Portsmouth city centre. DCTUK supplied and installed flooring across this large-scale project in two phases, working closely with the building management team to minimise disruption to residents while delivering a high-quality finish throughout.

Phase 1 saw our installation team tackle six individual apartment blocks — Kepple, Unicorn, Ramalies, Hamburg, Mermaid, and Tower — replacing existing flooring with carpet tiles throughout. Each block required full uplift and disposal of the old flooring, followed by straight-lay installation of new carpet tiles, with stair nosings fitted throughout. Given access constraints in an occupied residential development, the project required careful coordination with the site concierge, including managed skip and machinery access via the bully stripper for efficient uplift.

Phase 2 was a significantly larger undertaking, covering approximately 4,000 m² of carpet tile installation across the development. This phase involved extensive subfloor preparation — including feather finishing across 900 m² — alongside the full uplift, fitting and disposal of the existing carpet throughout. The scale of the stairwork alone was considerable, with over 1,000 stair nosings fitted and stair angles installed throughout the communal areas. A large specialist labour team worked on site across a five-month period from early 2024 to mid-2024 to complete the project.

The flooring installed across the development included Desso Essence Structure 9502, a commercial-grade carpet tile well suited to high-traffic communal and corridor spaces, alongside Morleys HN1 Black for statement areas. Both products combine durability with a professional aesthetic, making them an ideal choice for a development of this calibre.
