When The Story Museum in Oxford decided to create The Story Arcade—a brilliant new gallery celebrating video games as a narrative art form—they needed a floor that was perfectly themed, durable, and visually exciting. They came to us for a solution, starting with our free design service to ensure their pixel-perfect vision became reality!

The installation was a vibrant, custom design using a strategic blend of tiles to capture that energetic arcade look:

We installed 100 tiles of Heuga 727 - Indigo as the main base.
We then introduced a trio of complementary colours with 40 tiles of Nouveau Composition - Denim, 20 tiles of Nouveau Composition - Royal Blue, and 20 tiles of Nouveau Composition - Coast—this custom mix was essential in achieving the dynamic, block-colour aesthetic of a classic arcade.
To secure this complex "design lay" perfectly, we used Bostik FIX A320 Tack, along with Sticky Stuff Tackifier and Contact Spray Adhesive for maximum adhesion and minimal downtime.

No arcade is complete without tough entry matting and perfect transitions. We installed 9 square metres of Nouveau Entrance Matting - Cilla Black to protect the main floor from the Oxford weather and countless visitors.

Crucially, the job was tied together using transitions. This meticulous finish work ensured that the vibrant new floor integrated seamlessly with the museum’s existing spaces, completing the total look.
