A Weekend Carpet Tile Fit for LAMOUR in Finsbury Square

LAMOUR needed a room in their Finsbury Square office re-floored, and they needed it done over a weekend so the working week wasn't disturbed. The space is roughly 8m x 4.5m, on a raised access floor in the Alphabeta Building in the City of London.

The client already had their carpet tiles on site, so our job was the preparation and the fitting. The room had a bare metal floor, apart from a 1.5m x 4.5m section of plywood that had been glued down. That had to come up before anything else could happen, and a fully glued board is never a quick job to lift. Because it sat on a raised access floor, the team took extra care while removing it so the panels underneath weren't disturbed.

With the ply gone, the floor still needed attention. It was sticky from the old tiles and had picked up a fair amount of dust since, so our fitters cleaned it back before laying a thing. A clean, dry base is what lets carpet tiles sit flat and stay put.

The tiles were then fitted in a straight lay, held in place with Sticky Stuff tackifier, a spray adhesive that grips the tiles without bonding them permanently. That means individual tiles can be lifted and replaced later if one is ever stained or damaged, which suits an office. With the building heated and no furniture to move, the team worked through the Saturday and had the room finished before the week began.

Short, tightly-timed jobs in central London are a regular part of what our commercial fitting team does: arrive on the day, sort the awkward bits first, and leave a finished floor ready for Monday morning.
