Cambridge International School

Cambridge International School, based at the historic Cherry Hinton Hall in Cambridge, wanted to refresh its floors over the summer holidays. The aim was simple: have new, hard-wearing flooring in place before pupils and staff came back in September.

The existing floors were a mix of worn carpet and laminate. Our fitting team uplifted the lot, back to the original concrete subfloor, so the new flooring could go down on a clean, sound base.

Rather than sending the old flooring to landfill, we had it collected and recycled through our partner ReStart. It's a step we take on as many jobs as we can. For a school it fits well, because the refurbishment leaves very little waste behind.

With the subfloor clear, we straight-laid commercial carpet tiles across an area of more than 200m². Carpet tiles suit schools very well. They're durable underfoot and quieter than hard floors in busy rooms and corridors. If one area gets damaged or stained later on, individual tiles can be lifted and swapped without disturbing the rest of the floor.

Timing mattered most. We did the uplift and fit over two days at the end of August 2025, while the building was quiet, and signed the project off at the start of September. When the new term started, the school was ready to go with no disruption to teaching.

It's a good example of the education work we do at DCTUK. We plan the job around the school calendar, clear away and recycle the old floors, and leave the building ready to use.
