DCTUK completed phase three of an ongoing flooring programme at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy — over 500m² of new blue and green carpet tiles across classrooms, corridors, a staircase and bleacher seating, with the old carpet recycled through our ReStart partnership.
Darwen Aldridge Community Academy in Lancashire has been an ongoing DCTUK relationship for a while now, and phase three took on one of the biggest single scopes yet: over 500m² of concrete subfloor across classrooms, corridors, a staircase and bleacher seating, all needing new carpet.
Our specialist fitting team uplifted the old carpet tiles throughout, with the waste collected and recycled through our ReStart partnership rather than sent to landfill. The concrete subfloor was checked and feathered where needed to give an even, solid base for the new tiles.
New carpet tiles went down in a two-colour scheme — blue across the main flat areas (641m²) and green across a separate zone (289m²) — bonded with Bostik A320 tackifier and contact spray adhesive for a durable, straight-lay fit. A 31-step staircase and a 111m² bleacher seating area were carpeted too, both needing bespoke, made-to-measure fitting rather than a standard straight lay.
The whole phase was split across three separate visits through August and September to keep the school's day-to-day running smoothly, with the heating left on throughout to help everything settle and bond properly.
It's a great example of the longer-term work DCTUK does in education: a multi-phase relationship where we come back, phase after phase, to keep a school's flooring fresh and fit for purpose — recycling the old floor responsibly every time.
