A one-day fit at The Grayston Centre, Hoxton: 39m² of Forbo Marmoleum Walton in Peat for Bicep, a practical, natural floor for a shorter-term space.
t's not every day we get to fit a floor for one of the biggest names in electronic music. Bicep are the Belfast-born DJ and production duo who started out with the cult Feel My Bicep blog, digging up forgotten disco, Chicago house and Detroit techno, and went on to become one of the UK's best-loved electronic acts. Their 2017 breakthrough single "Glue" became a modern dance classic. Their second album, Isles (Ninja Tune, 2021), went to No. 2 in both the UK and Irish charts, and that same year they were nominated for two BRIT Awards. Their live shows have taken them from Printworks in London to headline slots at Glastonbury.
So when Bicep needed a new floor for a room at The Grayston Centre on Pitfield Street in Hoxton, north-east London, we were more than happy to help. It was a single space, about 7m x 6.5m, and the brief was simple: a good-looking, hard-wearing floor, fitted quickly and without fuss.
The client chose Forbo Marmoleum Walton in Peat (3376). Marmoleum is Forbo's natural linoleum, made largely from renewable raw materials such as linseed oil, wood flour and jute. Walton is one of the range's classic marbled designs, and Peat is a deep, warm brown that gives the room a grounded, characterful look and suits a creative space well.
There was one practical decision to make before fitting. The subfloor wasn't perfectly level, and the usual answer would be a full screed before laying. The client only planned to use the space for a limited time, so after talking it through they chose to skip the screed and keep the job lean. We made sure they understood the trade-off, then got on with it. It's the kind of honest conversation we'd always rather have up front than leave anyone with a surprise.
Materials came in on a seven-day lead time, and our fitting team laid all 39m² in a single day in August 2025, ready for the client to move straight in.
Not every job needs a full-scale refit. Sometimes the right answer is a quality product, fitted well, scoped to how the space will actually be used, and that's exactly what this one was.
