CAE Inc.

CAE asked us to refloor eight simulator pods at their Innovation Drive site in Burgess Hill. Each pod is only about 10m², but they're far from a typical small room. They're full of fixed equipment, and the floors are raised access floors, which have to stay easy to lift so engineers can get to the services underneath.

We started by lifting the old carpet tiles in each pod. The new floor uses Milliken Colour Compositions tiles in two colourways, College and Fresco, laid in a herringbone pattern. The result is a sharp, modern look that suits a high-tech training space and turns a functional room into something that feels finished.

The access floor ruled out permanent adhesive. Instead, we laid the tiles on TacTiles, small adhesive connectors that link the tiles to each other rather than gluing them to the floor. The carpet stays flat and secure under foot, but any tile or floor panel can be lifted cleanly whenever the client needs access, with no adhesive residue and no damaged tiles.

The detail work in these rooms took real care. Every pod needed precise cutting around fixed installations such as desks and seating. With a herringbone pattern, those cuts have to keep the pattern running cleanly up to every edge. Our fitters worked carefully around each fixture so the finish looks deliberate and not patched in.

Because the simulators are in constant use, all the fitting was done out of hours. We planned the work in visits that covered two pods at a time, so most of the facility kept running while each pair was refitted. The project ran from late November into early December 2025.

It's a good example of the specialist commercial work we enjoy: an unusual space, a demanding layout, and a fitting method chosen around how the building actually works.
