Royal National Institute of Blind People, Gateshead

We recently completed a significant commercial flooring installation at the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) offices in Gateshead — a project spanning approximately 215m² across multiple areas including stairs.

As you can see from the before photos, the existing flooring was tired and well past its best — a faded, worn teal carpet that had clearly seen better days and was long overdue for replacement.

The chosen product was Nouveau Connections 2.0 in Smoke Grey — a high-performance carpet tile well suited to busy commercial environments. Its structured loop pile and robust construction make it an ideal choice for an office used by staff and visitors alike. Stair nosings in Morleys HN3 (Black) were fitted throughout the staircase to provide clear visual definition and safety underfoot — a particularly considered choice for a building serving a community with visual impairments.

Subfloor preparation was carried out using Ardex Feather Finish, ensuring a smooth, level base before installation. Adhesives used included Bostik FIX A320 Tack and Sticky Stuff Tackifier Spray, selected to suit the different substrate conditions across the project areas.

For a busy working environment like RNIB's offices, minimising disruption was just as important as the quality of the finish. Our team completed the entire installation over a weekend — working out of hours so that staff arrived on Monday morning to a fully transformed space, with zero impact on the working week.
