So what exactly is Bio-PU? It's a genuinely new kind of floor. Wineo's PURLINE is made from ecuran, a high-performance composite built mostly from renewable and natural raw materials - castor oil, rapeseed oil and good old chalk - bound with polyurethane. In other words, it's partly made of the stuff you'd find in a farmer's field and a school blackboard, and it's made in Germany by people who take floors very seriously indeed.

What it isn't: vinyl. There's no PVC, no chlorine, no plasticisers and no solvents in here, which also means no new-floor whiff - it's odour-neutral from day one. It isn't linoleum either: no linseed oil, no jute backing, no yellowish film to wait out after fitting and no sealing or polishing. Think of it as the cool cousin who skipped both family feuds and turned up with something better.

Don't let the castor oil fool you - this floor is tough as old boots. It's rated Class 23/34/43, so it's happy in heavy commercial and even light industrial spaces, and with residual indentation of just 0.10mm or less it shrugs off hospital beds, serving trolleys and wheelie suitcases. Office chairs too: 25,000 castor revolutions and not a mark.

It's kind to people as well as planets. You get an R9 slip rating with PTV 40+ in the wet, around 8dB impact sound reduction so classrooms and corridors sound calmer, and a surface that's warm and forgiving underfoot. It resists scratches, stains and UV fade, cleans up without harsh chemicals and is suitable for underfloor heating. The certificate shelf is heaving, too: Blue Angel, Greenguard, M1, Cradle to Cradle Bronze and an A+ indoor air rating.

Each box holds 10 tiles at 100cm x 50cm - 5m², 2.5mm thick, for full glue-down installation. Minimum order is 20m².
