Colour and mood

Have you been feeling a little blue lately? No, this isn’t the start of a sinister life insurance ad that convinces you you’ve only got a week to live after 60 seconds of rhetorical questions. I just wanted to let you know that if you’ve been feeling a bit down in the dumps, it may be the change in seasons.

Another potential culprit for giving you a serious case of #sadface could very well be the colours that surround you on a daily basis. Yep, that’s right - the hues that paint your world have a dramatic impact on your mental state and that includes everything from the colour of your socks to the shade of paint on the walls at work.

Now I (unfortunately) can’t send my army of interior design pros in to revamp your bosses barracks and nor do I have much of a say about your sock collection (fortunately). However, what I can do is pass some pearls of wisdom your way on how to nurture and improve your mental wellbeing via your aesthetic surroundings.

Plenty of scientific studies have proved that colour has a pretty significant effect on the old brainbox, regardless of age, gender or lifestyle. This means that when it comes to home decor, picking out a palette for a public space or carefully selecting your brand colours, it’s important to get it right.

Use this carpet tile colour chart to inform your next decor decisions and feel free to share it with your friends on social media to help spread some positive vibes around the place. Just make sure to tag us in @dctuk so we can swing by and say hello!
