The DCTUK Story

Ever wondered how we came to be? Well ponder no more because here's our story (so far...)

Still a family-run business today, the company is proud to be based in Liverpool but supplies residential customers and commercial customers across the UK and Europe. From small orders for a bedroom, to large international companies such as Eddie Stobart or Marriott Hotels - we are involved in providing flooring solutions to many different industries and sectors.

A history in cotton trading

Once the busiest port in the world, Liverpool has a heritage of being at the centre in the world's trade in yarn. Traders would meet at the Cotton Exchange building in the city centre (still standing today) and make telephone calls to New York, Bremen and Bombay.

Technology has improved a lot since then and most of our yarns are manufactured using synthetic material to ensure longevity in the product lifespan. However there are still a good number of cotton and wool based carpet tiles on the market and available to buy here at DCTUK.

The start of something extraordinary

Once upon a time, way back in 2007, our Managing Director, Dean had a lightbulb moment while kicking back on the couch in his living room and it was that very moment that it all began. Thanks to the help of his lovely wife, Jess (who now looks after their 4 even more lovely children), we received our very first order in the Summer of that year and well, the rest is history but let us fill in some of the most memorable gaps for you.

Welcome some very important people

By 2009, after Dean and co. continued to work their little socks off, it wasn’t long before prestigious organisation Aspire Defence came on board and we started supporting military bases around the UK by providing them with quality flooring solutions for their barracks and soldier accommodation. By 2012 we were also proudly working with the marvellous Cancer Research UK after securing a national contract for their UK stores.

A brand new base in Burscough

Up until October 2013, DCTUK HQ was located in the little Merseyside town of Formby - home of the red squirrel and some beautiful beaches - but world domination was creeping closer so we decided to expand our operations into a swanky new warehouse in Burscough. Here we have been sitting pretty on the Liverpool-Leeds canal, enjoying the view and building up a strong base of loyal clients and acclaimed suppliers through providing premium products at discount prices.

Say hello to some more DCTUK VIP's

We hit the ground running as 2014 came around and in September we were lucky enough to add Eddie Stobart (the UK’s largest haulage company) to our growing portfolio as we supplied carpet tiles for for depots and warehouse offices. As winter approached, we certainly didn’t lose steam and before the year was out, we had fulfilled (supplied and fitted) a prolific flooring project brief for the famous Manchester Airport Concorde Hangar.

Make way for FloorsUK

After a bloomin’ fantastic 2014, we continued into 2015 on a high as we launched our own sister company in March. FloorsUK has fast become a go-to brand for high quality flooring solutions that delivers premium products without the premium price tag. We might be a little bit biased but our ever-expanding team of employees, suppliers and customers tells us we’re definitely doing something right.

In our (new) Liverpool home

As much as we love our picturesque Burscough base, we decided that it was high time DCT experienced the big bright lights of the city so in November 2015, we signed on the dotted line for a brand new office in Liverpool’s Cotton Exchange. Once home to the city’s historical booming cotton trade, it’s a match made in heaven as we continue to please customers with our modern wool-based carpet tiles. We will still be keeping hold the DCTUK warehouse too - you aren’t getting rid of us that easily, Burscough!

Moving to Aintree

Onto the next location, we don’t like to stay in one place for too long - DCTUK just won’t stop growing! We’re not complaining though. Come 2017 it was time to reunite our warehouse and our head office. So in April 2017 we moved into our current office in Aintree and don’t we just love it here! Aintree, best known as the home of Aintree racecourse, soon to be best known as the home of DCTUK. We really couldn’t be in a better location, perfectly placed between DPD, Royal Mail and our local palette carriers. Everything we need to be able to continue growing and building connections whilst still supplying amazing quality products at low prices!

Our offices get a makeover!

DCTUK HQ had a new shiny makeover! It was transformed from a standard office warehouse to a fun, exciting and modern environment. We spend the majority of our lives at work (an upsetting thought), so our aim was to bring a little part of home into the workplace in order to create a joyful working environment. Out went the plain grey carpet tiles and bare walls and in came the mini bar, bright Liverpool wallpaper and most importantly, new carpet tiles! We used our trusty partners over at Interface to help us with the revamp. We used Interface Human Nature 850 and 830 carpet planks to jazz up the downstairs office, whilst using Interface Textured Stones LVT throughout the rest of the office. Perfectly reflecting our main inspiration - biophilic design! Just because an office is small, it doesn’t have to be bare, don’t just settle for plain grey carpet tiles. Read the full story here.
