The future's bright, the future's green

Our good friends Desso have been polishing their specks and doing a bit of studying with McKinsey management consultants and the World Health Organisation and have come up with some pretty scary stats...

According to their homework, over half of the world's population will be living in a city by the time 2030 rolls around. That's an extra billion (and a bit) more people than the existing 3.6 billion city inhabitants.

Desso have decided that, as a species, it's time to clean up our cosmopolitan act to generate more sustainable cities if we're all going to be living in 'em and make our carbon footprint more like a delicate little ballet dancer than a bull in a china shop.


The Great Indoors campaign

Desso's Great Indoors campaign was actually launched back in 2013 but the eco-aware brand has since launched it's own standalone website to deepen its efforts. So what is The Great Indoors all about, you ask...

You don't need me, Desso or even big important researchers to tell you that us humans have got some serious improvements to make when it comes to our outdoor activities and how they impact our vulnerable environment. However what you might not be aware of is the effect our interior design choices have on the planet and our own health and wellbeing. That's where Desso comes in.

As part of the campaign, Desso also uncovered that 90% of our time is spent indoors and more than 2 million people every single year are dying of heart conditions contracted through breathing in the fine dust particles that are polluting our air.

Bearing this alarming fact in mind, they set about a vision to "make the floor work for our health and wellbeing" to nurture interior environments off all types with improved air quality, acoustics and workplace design.

In order to make our indoors great again, Desso have realised that we need to first improve the materials that we are building our offices, schools, homes etc in. We need to wave goodbye to toxins and 'unsafe' materials and instead focus on ones that are more kind to us and our planet.
