If you've been keeping a close eye(ball) on your email inbox, you'll notice that DCTUK Trick or Treat Week is in full swing. We've had plenty of tricks (mwahaha) but treats galore and we're here to carry on the ghastly celebrations with your list of the top scary films you must watch this Halloween weekend.
I did a quick sweep around DCTUK HQ and some of our motley crew of monsters have even shared their all-time favourite Halloween films for your lights-off, blanket-on, viewing pleasure...
Okay so this definitely isn't a toe-curling thriller that will leave you wide-eyed for weeks but I thought I'd ease you in gently with something more gentle. Plus, I'm a massive wimp when it comes to scary movies but I do love this kooky Tim Burton classic. A great one to watch with the ankle-biters too after a good old game of bob apple.
Killer clowns aren't a new concept, you know? They've been running rife since 1990 in this cinematic adaptation of Stephen King's blood-curdling novel. There's a shiny new remake coming out next year so catch this classic original while you can and what better time of year to do it, right?
If you're planning a cosy night in this weekend but still want to something that is going to get that blood pumping, get yourself a copy of James' favourite fright night film and hold on tight. Hockey never looked so scary - not even on a frosty February morning back in high school when you were forced onto the pitch by your big, bad P.E teacher.
Okay so we've covered a few of the good old classics that you'll likely have sitting on your media shelf somewhere collecting killer dust bunnies, now it's time for something a little more current but still equally as spine-tingling. When Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are both thrown into the mix, you just know it's going to make for a magical concoction but I'll say no more so as not to spoil this incredible psychological thriller.
Heeeeere's Johnny! That's right - Jack Nicholson is here with his infamous gritted grin to send a shiver down your spine this weekend. I mean, is it really Halloween if you haven't sat down in front of the box with a red rum on ice to watch this Stanley Kubrick classic again?
As I'm sure you're probably aware (you'd have to be living in a zombie-proof bunker not to), The Walking Dead returned this week and in the wake of its heart-crushing season premiere, we're feeling all zombified and in more ways than one. While you're waiting for the next instalment, get your sub-human fix with this spooktacular, silver screen favourite just like our marketing manager, Jon will be.
If you can't quite stomach the blood and gore that today's modern audiences feast on but still want a bit of a thrill, whack Alfred Hitchcock's iconic slasher. This legendary film director isn't known as 'the master of macabre' for nothing you know... Make sure you put the popcorn down when the shower scene comes around so you've got something to cover your peepers.
So many epic things came out of the 1980's and this cinematic treasure is definitely one of them. With a twisted nod to the charming tale of Peter Pan and his very own 'lost boys', this Halloween must-see features blood, gore, vampires and a slammin' soundtrack to boot.
