Autumn/Winter 2016 is just around the corner so I thought it about time I do my duty and provide you with the industry intel we always promise to deliver hot off the press.
Over the bank holiday weekend I blew the dust off my crystal ball and peered into the future of interior design and here's what I found out for you...
A craze for concrete
Okay so we’ve already discussed the true beauty of concrete once this month but it really is set to be one hot topic next season. This humble material is the dark horse of the design world and it’s ready to steal the limelight.

An army of terracotta
Concrete isn’t acting alone in this interior trend takeover, oh no. Terracotta is hot on its heels and seconds away from taking the style stakes by storm, I reckon.
We’re not just talking material things here - we’re talking colour too. Palettes are turning up the heat and taking on a whole new Mediterranean vibe as shades of burnt umber and smoking sienna take the helm. Think brick, varnished woods, wicker furniture and terracotta accents.
All matte everything
As wish lists and project briefs continue to pile up high with concrete and terracotta, it got me thinking and after picking the brains of those in the know, my suspicions were confirmed correct. Matte is back.
From floor to ceiling and doorway to walkway, domestic and commercial interiors are all getting a modern matte makeover. Gone are the days of high-shine hallways and super slick surfaces (for now) - make way for chalky stones, bare brick and rustic slates.
Be open plan about it
For those of you already living or working within four walls, this one might be a little tricky to take on but the designers, architects and contractors amongst us, listen up because open plan is the way forward it seems.
Partition walls are a thing of the past and doors are getting knocked down quite literally because wide, open interiors are a must-have for the coming season. Kitchens bleed into living areas, while breakout spaces merge with meeting rooms.

Mix & match materials
The beauty about Autumn/Winter 2016 is that is seems to be all about bespoke designs and individuality, which is something we always champion here at DCTUK.
It’s time to breathe a sigh of relief and ditch the regimented coordination that has been ruling the roost in favour of mismatched materials and contrasting surface patterns.
