Luckily for you, us lot at DCTUK are extremely well connected in the carpet tile industry so we can fill you in on exactly what went down and pay a homage to Heuga Residential. Don’t worry, we’ll also help mend the broken hearts that are in absolute agony over the loss by introducing them to the new kids on the residential carpet tile block, Nouveau.
The invention of the carpet tile…
The idea of modular carpet was first conceived in the mid 19th century on the narrow streets of Amsterdam. Rolls of 12 foot carpet weren’t very easy to get around as you can imagine with those hazardous canals at every turn. So a smart fella down at the, then small, company of Heuga decided it would be a good idea to take a carpet, chop it up into 10x10 inch squares and throw some bitumen backing on it to create the ultimate jigsaw puzzle! Your carpet order could now be packaged into a few small, easier to manage boxes and, thus, the carpet tile was born.
Heuga went on to inspire companies all over the world due to their level of innovation and design. They also managed to earn a space in the heart of many homes and have truly left a lasting mark. In December 2017 the residential arm of the revolutionary company closed their doors and waved goodbye. But as the saying goes, when one door closes another one opens and Heuga Residential made way for another upcoming brand to carry the baton and be the leaders in residential carpet tiles; that brand being the amazing Nouveau Home.
